Rachel is a Southern California transplant, being born and raised in Ventura County. She received her Bachelors of Science in Biology from UC-San Diego, but was most inspired by the coursework in her two minors, Public Service and Education Studies, and so she decided to pursue a career in education.

Following her graduation from UCSD, she began a Masters program in Education at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. As part of her Master’s program, Rachel spent two years teaching middle school science at an inner city school in New Orleans, Louisiana through the Alliance for Catholic Education program (ACE) and the AmeriCorps program; in addition to receiving her Master’s degree, she received her Single Subject Teaching Credential in Biological Sciences through the program.

Before moving to Northern California, Rachel returned to San Diego where she gained experience as a third grade homeroom teacher. She brings a wealth of ideas and a sense of curiosity to the classroom, where her students are regularly involved in lab work and other research projects. Additionally, Rachel is currently working on her Doctorate in Organization and Leadership, as well as her Administrative Credential, at the University of San Francisco. Ms. Pleis also finds time to coach our 5th grade girls’ basketball team, among many other activities in which she is involved.
