School Advisory Council Overview
The School Advisory Committee (SAC) is a dedicated group of school parents, teachers, and administrators who meet regularly throughout the school year to help guide the school’s policies and activities.
Organizational Structure
The members of SAC serve as advisors to the pastor of Sacred Heart parish and the principal of Sacred Heart School. In addition, these individuals facilitate the numerous Support Group activities performed by over 25 Sacred Heart committees. For further information regarding the SAC and Support Groups, please visit the Governance page.

Election of Officers
During our final meeting in June, the following individuals were elected to serve as SAC officers for the 2009–2010 school year:
- Chairman — Rick Pearce
- Vice Chair — Ron Schmalz
- Secretary — Shelley Cargill
Support Group Sponsors and Committee Leaders
One of the first and most important accomplishments of the 2009–2010 school year was the identification of school parents willing and able to lead this year’s SAC-related volunteer efforts . In this regard, the following SAC members were selected to lead our 5 support groups:
- Catholic Identity — Christine Csubak
- Enrichment — Kathy Jain
- Fundraising — Michelle Perone
- Public Relations — Lynn Ball
- Strategic Planning — Ed Hayden
The Support Group Sponsors play a critical role in facilitating communication between the SAC and the 25+ committees that conduct volunteer activities during the SHS school year. In addition to facilitating communication, the Sponsors also assist with the establishment of committee leaders (chairs, co-chairs, etc.) and members.
For more information regarding the Support Groups and associated committees, please refer to the Support Groups and Governance pages.
Strategic Planning Consultation
The first three SAC meetings this fall (September – November) have been focused on strategic planning for the school and the school’s volunteer groups. The Sponsors have established goals and objectives for their respective Support Groups for the 2009-10 school year.
Meanwhile, the entire SAC has been assisting Mr. Pulchny with market research that will be important as he develops the strategic plan for the school. Further strategic planning will occur in the spring as the SAC seeks to help the school prepare for the upcoming 2010–2011 school year.
Reminder: All parents, staff and faculty members are always welcome to attend any SAC meeting. They are traditionally held on the second Thursday of each month, from 7-9 pm in the Parish Center. Minutes and agendas are available in the school office.

SAC Nomination Period Extended to Wednesday April 22nd
Please keep in mind that you have until the end of the day on Wednesday to submit any last minute nominations via e-mail.
Although the primary objective of the nomination and discernment process is to identify new Advisory Council members, this is also a great opportunity for school parents to learn more about our numerous committees, which operate under the guidance of the Advisory Council Support Groups and deliver the school's volunteer-driven activities. In addition to identifying council members, the discernment committee will be looking for individuals who may be able to assist in a number of leadership capacities at Sacred Heart. Please keep this in mind as you consider self-nomination and/or nominating a fellow parent.

The Pulse – From the March 3rd Heart Beat
The Sacred Heart School Advisory Council met twice last month. A traditional council meeting was held on February 12th. The meeting began with progress reports from all Council Sponsors, the Principal's and Pastor's Reports. It was clear that there has been an enormous amount of work done in numerous committees in the council. Father Gary updated the Council on the principal selection progress and interviews have begun. A second meeting was held on February 26th which allowed the board to understand a bit more about the tuition setting process. Last but not least, this is the year that the School Advisory Council will be moving to a discernment process for new members next year. Keep an eye out for more news about how this process will work and for the many opportunities for your involvement in the Council.
If you are interested in reading more about these and other discussions held at the SAC meetings, the minutes are available for viewing in the school office. Our next meeting will be held on March 12th, 2009, from 6:30-9:00 p.m. in the Parish Center. Any parent, staff or faculty are welcome to attend these meetings.
