Mustang Sports Program
The after school sports program is an integral part of the total educational experience and enriches the life of the entire school community. Any child in 5th through 8th grade is eligible to join and take part. Our focus is to develop an atmosphere in which children not only learn the skills needed to participate but to also develop a life long joy of taking part in team sports.
Athletes are always encouraged to put the success & goals of the team before individual recognition. A comprehensive Sports Book, which spells out all aspects of our program, is given to each family in 5th grade as well as any new families in grades 6-8. The Athletic office is located upstairs in the gym. You are always welcome to come up & see our school sport history and have your questions answered. All team parties are also held in the loft.
The Mustang Classic is a basketball tournament for 7th & 8th grade girls. Teams from various schools throughout the Diocese are invited to take part in a week of friendly competition. Held each year during Catholic schools week, it runs for 5 days. The event begins on the Wednesday before the 1st weekend in February. The opening game kicks off with a school-wide red & white pep rally, and this year marks our 27th annual tournament.
The walk-a-thon is a school-wide event held at the end of the year (on the half day in May) from 1-3pm. Each walker asks people to sponsor them for each lap walked. ALL of the money that is raised goes to maintain our sports program.
Prizes are given every 5 laps to the top walkers (boy & girl) in each class. The children who bring in the most money, walk the most laps & get the most pledges are recognized with a special gift. This is truly an awesome day!
