Welcome to Our Library
The Sacred Heart Library is a little gem of which we are very proud. During the school remodel, the library was re-located into a central space within the school and equipped with four Macs, modern bookcases and shelving, and an upgraded circulation desk. Furthermore, our catalog was converted to an online automated system, LibraryWorld.net. All features for operating the library are within this system: circulation check-in and check-out; patron activity and history; generating reports such as overdue lists by patron and powerful search tools for locating books. Conveniently, this system can be running simultaneously on more than one computer and can also be accessed from any computer with Internet access (login and password required).
Each year, many new books (fiction and non-fiction) are added to our library which currently boasts an inventory of nearly 7,000 books. There are three revenue streams by which we fund and add books the library: the General Mills Box Top program, the Scholastic Book Fair and the Sacred Heart Book Club. Annually, the Box Top program generates about $1,000 for our library and the Book Fair generates $1,800-$2,300. The Sacred Heart Book Club is a way to purchase books with money donated by families. A book purchased for the Book Club is dedicated in honor of a student. His/her name is written on a special dedication sticker which is placed inside the book. The book becomes a permanent part of the library collection.
Our library also contains a growing collection of resources for both teachers and parents. We have a large collection of DVD’s and videos covering all sorts of topics from science and humanities to classic literature and holidays. We also still maintain a large number of encyclopedias and other reference materials in book form.
Our library is managed by a part-time librarian and is further supported by parent volunteers. K-3 students visit the library weekly but all grades have access and support in the library.
