Welcome to Science Class

Sacred Heart School follows the Science Content Standards for California. These standards state: Elementary and Middle school students are provided with the foundational skills and knowledge to eventually learn the core concepts, principles, and theories of science at the high school level.

Students in 4th – 8th grades are required to do a project each trimester. The dates for these projects are coordinated with their homeroom teacher to avoid over-burdening the student.

  • 4th graders are assigned three projects each year: make a model from one of their assigned topics, accompanied by a short write-up; make a 4-corner diorama about different biomes; and participate in the science fair.
  • 5th graders are assigned three projects each year: make a human body system model, accompanied by a short write-up; do a research report on weather; and participate in the science fair.
  • 6th graders are assigned three projects each year: make a tri-fold brochure about earthquakes; do a research report and model about volcanoes; and participate in the science fair.
  • 7th graders are assigned three projects each year: make a model of a cell (plant or animal); write a report on a genetic disease of their choice (inherited or not) and / or do an animal power point presentation; and participate in the science fair.
  • 8th graders are assigned three projects each year: make a model of an atom, accompanied by a written report; other project to be determined with class input (project and write up included); and participate in the science fair.
